Oh yes, and what is the estimate for air shipment to New Zealand. ?  I think the last package was around 12 pounds, but I could be wrong.   Thanks.

Do you mean the spine by the handle?

Not too sure of the terminology, but I think that I mean the thickness of the spine maybe an inch away from the handle.  Thanks.

PS.... If anybody else wants this one, don't feel you have to be polite and hold back.   I'm sure there will be others and you will probably do me a favour if you jump in first.  But as a practical user of blades I think that this particular tool would be a wonderful all-rounder for work in the bush.  I am particularly thinking of using it as a companion on my trap line.   It is possibly a bit too long and that is the main thing about it that concerns me.  The rust is nothing.... the blade will be fine.  Rust becomes a character-enhancing patina on a working knife.

I will continue to ponder and torture myself.

Hi ANGREJ
I see you have the village Karda, I got one at the last Gurkha weekend and prepared almost every thing for the evening meal with it.
It is now in our kitchen and gets used more than any other knife, we cut everything with it, even the wife uses it and says it is the best knife she has, I have not sharpened it since I got it and it still razor sharp and hard as nails, and easy to clean 10/10 for quality.
Cheers Simon

Thanks Stickbow, thats what i hoped to use it for.I havent used an ordinary kitchen knife for years. One of the reasons i bought the Tamang Chaura, was to use it for food prep. But its too pretty and i can't bring myself to use it.Has your karda built up a patina yet ? and how has the handle fared with regular contact with water ? and sorry one more,do you rub it over with cooking/olive oil every time its been used ?.
Thanks again GUYS,can't wait to get itBig smile

Hi angrej
It is starting to build up a patina slowly, as for the handle I never wash the whole knife I just wipe the blade with a damp nylon scourer and rinse it under the hot tap and then dry it with a tee towel and leave it on the side for next time.
And thats it cheers Paul..
